Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MSFGG4025 - Apply innovation in contemporary designed glass

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Identify the potential or need for innovation

  1. Analyse design and production requirements from job instructions to identify opportunities to innovate in the use of designed glass
  2. Identify and access sources of relevant information about historical, cultural and other factors relevant for innovation to meet design and production requirements

Conduct research and experimentation

  1. Identify suitable research and experimentation techniques and procedures and obtain approval from relevant personnel to use them
  2. Identify and engage with specialists who could assist the realisation of innovative techniques and designs
  3. Research, adapt and use relevant ideas and approaches from other practitioners with consideration of intellectual property, moral rights and copyright
  4. Select, adapt or introduce new materials, tools, equipment or technologies to enable experimentation
  5. Experiment to establish the best ways to achieve innovative responses to job requirements, considering feasibility
  6. Consult with colleagues about the results of experimentation

Produce innovative designs

  1. Prepare preliminary designs according to job instructions
  2. Produce and evaluate samples to assess materials, construction methods, feasibility or cost
  3. Prepare final designs according to job instructions
  4. Identify and estimate materials, subcontracted services, direct and indirect costs, overheads and mark-ups for panel fabrication according to workplace procedures

Fabricate innovative pieces

  1. Select and check all required tools and equipment are ready to use
  2. Gather materials required to fabricate the pieces, and check they meet quality requirements
  3. Identify hazards and hazard controls and check the hazard controls are in place and operating
  4. Lay out, measure, cut and assemble materials and complete fabricating innovative pieces according to designs and specifications
  5. Clean up the work area, identify items for recycling and dispose of waste
  6. Identify, tag and report any damage to equipment and tools
  7. Check, clean and do routine maintenance on equipment and tools and store them and unused materials
